Somatic Experiencing

“Somatic experiencing is a form of alternative therapy aimed at relieving the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental and physical trauma-related health problems by focusing on the client's perceived body sensations (or somatic experiences).  It was created by trauma therapist Peter A. Levine.”

“Human Beings reluctance to surrender to the instinctual prevents the complete discharge of survival energies. The un-discharged energy remains stuck in the body and the nervous system. “  Peter Levine, PhD

Somatic Experiencing was developed by Peter Levine, PhD,  who wrote “Waking the Tiger” A naturalistic approach to healing trauma.  The website also available for more information, www.traumahealing.org.

This workshop was designed from Peter Levine’s work.  It became very clear to me after years sober that I had told my story many times yet telling the story no longer worked to give me relief.  I was experiencing symptoms in my body.  I became aware that the painful symptoms represented my body screaming for my attention.  The symptoms were expressed thru my insane relationships with other people, food and sex.

Our bodies hold all of our history and wisdom without rationalization and justification.  So often we want to tell our bodies to buck up and let us our minds run the show.  Somatic Experiencing gifts us with knowing the unvarnished truth without the mind editing.

1) Learn about containment, resourcing and empowerment to allow your body to organically heal from your trauma and restore creative self-regulation and resiliency.

2) Be able to identify, normalize and stabilize traumatic reactions.

3) Learn to begin to let the stories go and identify where in your body the story is living.

4) Experience the power of the mind to control your body vs. allowing the body to have its own story.
